Embark on a full Jebel Shams adventure starting with a hotel pickup and a scenic drive through the villages of Fanja, Birkat Al Mouz, and Al Hamra. As you ascend the mountain via a mix of blacktop and off-road terrain, you’ll take in breathtaking views of the rugged Omani landscape. Upon arrival at Jebel Shams, known as the "Mountain of the Sun", you'll set up base camp and enjoy a cultural evening under the stars while dinner is prepared. This immersive night gives you a chance to connect with nature and local traditions in one of Oman’s most awe-inspiring locations.
The next morning begins with a serene sunrise and freshly prepared breakfast, followed by the highlight of the trip — the Balcony Walk. Also known as the "Donkey Trek," this 4-hour guided hike follows an ancient trail over 300 years old, leading you to the abandoned village of San Bani Khamis. Perched on the edge of Oman’s Grand Canyon, this trek offers dramatic cliffside views and insight into life in the mountains 70 years ago. After the hike, the group will return to camp, pack up, and make the scenic drive back to your hotel, completing your first full adventure in Oman.

What a wonderful campsite to experience the beauty of Jebel Shams! Be aware of the goats that may come around looking for food, as well as the wind during the night. Enjoy! :)

An absolutely amazing site for overnight camping and sitting around campfire enjoying the warmth specially in peak winters. ..& stargazing

Great camping ground with a very good view and cool breeze, yet in the morning, wind was so strong that we need to pack up early and go. quite unsafe that time. went there August

Beautiful location for amazing sunsets/sunrises. Limited space for camping spots at this particular location but the entire mountain top has many locations you just have to keep an eye out and be creative. However be aware many people showed up at 1-2 am with flood lights and couldn't care less about noise/ light affecting other campers.

Excellent Natural beauty. 2100 meters above sea level Need to pass through Al James village. It is advised to the travellers to fill up the fuel tank as there were no further pumps. SUV recommended but it is not mandatory to come in SUV as we found some families have come using normal Sedan cars. It took around 1:30 hours to coverup the 40 Kms mountain route @ 12 Kms the road will be of gravel and stones. We visited there on 1st of January and the temperature was @ 10 max and below zero minimum. ( Degree Celsius) It is not recommended to have camping nets during this period but we found some people staying in tents. We stayed in resorts nearby. Tracking and cliffs are excellent views and be aware of mountain goats when.you go near by cliffs. We really enjoyed the climate and the natural beauty.
